About the Ministry

The Ministry of Mines invites applications for the post of Junior Legal Assistant on a contractual basis.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized university/institute approved by the Bar Council of India.
  • Eligible for registration as an advocate under the Advocate’s Act, 1961.
  • Age: Not more than 40 years as of the closing date.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years post-qualification experience in Government Departments, PSUs, High Courts, or Supreme Court.
  • Strong background in handling court matters.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in mining-related legal issues.

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Selection Process

  • Shortlisting based on qualifications and experience.
  • Interview by a Selection Committee.
  • Final decision rests with the Competent Authority.
  • No TA/DA for attending interviews.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support on matters before the Ministry.
  • Draft para-wise comments on petitions and forward to Counsel.
  • Scrutinize counter affidavits and monitor pending cases.
  • Assist in hearings and policy-related legal matters.
  • Maintain records of court cases and assist in decision-making.

Contract & Benefits

  • Contractual engagement for 1 year, extendable up to 3 years based on performance.
  • Fixed remuneration of ₹65,000 per month with 5% annual increment (subject to approval).
  • Entitled to 8 days of leave per year.
  • No additional allowances (DA, HRA, medical, pension, etc.).
  • Travel reimbursement as per Central Government rules for Group B Non-Gazetted officers.
