DPIIT Internship Scheme 2026

DPIIT works under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It deals with industrial promotion, internal trade, Startup India and the policy side of intellectual property. Its internship scheme is meant to show students how the Government of India works and to introduce them to the schemes the Department runs.

Role. Interns do not get a fixed designation. Sections and divisions of DPIIT ask for interns, select candidates through their own procedure, and the Establishment-G Section sends the offer letter. You work with the section that selects you.

Work. You and the Divisional Head agree on a work programme and an output. The section keeps your attendance and supervision record. At the end of the assignment, you submit a brief report on your learning experience. The actual work depends on the section, but for law students it will usually be research and drafting support.

  • You choose one, two, or three months.
  • The stipend is ₹10,000 per month. It is processed after you finish, once your section certifies that the assigned work is complete.
  • You get an Experience Certificate on successful completion. If you do not complete the period satisfactorily, you get neither the certificate nor the stipend.
  • Not more than 20 interns are selected at a time.

You apply online. The internship itself is expected to be in person at DPIIT’s offices in New Delhi. The scheme does not state this, so confirm the mode with the Department once you are selected.

  • You must be pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or research, at a recognized university or institution in India or abroad.
  • Law is an eligible discipline, along with engineering, management, economics, finance, computers, and library management.
  • Other disciplines may be considered case by case.
  • You should be a currently enrolled student.
