15 New Judges Take Oath at Madras High Court

The Madras High Court welcomed 15 new judges on Sunday, with eight advocates and seven judicial officers formally sworn in during a function held on the court premises. Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari administered the oath of office to the incoming judges.

This latest batch of appointments brings the court’s total judicial strength to 66, out of a sanctioned capacity of 75 — a notable step toward closing the long-standing gap in judge numbers at one of India’s busiest High Courts.

Among those elevated as permanent judges were Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, Natarajan Ramesh, G.K. Muthukumaar, and Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan. Three advocates — Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar, and Ellappan Manoharan — were appointed as additional judges for a two-year term.

Seven judicial officers were also elevated to the bench as additional judges for two years: Dr. P. Murugan, M.D. Sumathi, S. Alli, C. Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan, and N. Gunasekaran.
