ABOUT NALSA

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) is constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free legal services to weaker sections of society and to organise Lok Adalats for the amicable settlement of disputes.

The NALSA Internship Programme provides law students with practical exposure to the functioning of NALSA and other Legal Services Institutions, with the objective of promoting access to justice.

ELIGIBILITY

Students pursuing:

• Three-Year LL.B. Course
• Five-Year Integrated Law Course

from any recognised University, College or Institution.

Preference:
Students in the 3rd to 5th year of a five-year integrated law course and 2nd to 3rd year of a three-year LL.B. course.

INTERNSHIP DURATION

01 MONTH | 04 WEEKS

The internship commences on the 1st day of the month.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to submit:

01. Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume
02. Expression of Interest
A one-page or shorter statement explaining your interest and suitability for the programme.
03. No Objection Certificate (NOC)
Issued by the appropriate college authority and mentioning the student’s course and semester/year.

Applications must be submitted online through the NALSA website.

SELECTION PROCESS

SELECTION BY DRAW OF LOTS

Selection shall be based on a draw of lots, and the decision of the Competent Authority shall be final.

INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE

During the internship, students will receive exposure to:

Functioning and objectives of NALSA
Legal Services Institutions
NALSA schemes and activities
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Modules and statistical reports

FIELD EXPOSURE

Approximately 10 days of field visits covering:

Delhi State Legal Services Authority
District Legal Services Authority
Legal Aid Defense Counsel Office
National Lok Adalat
Remand Courts
CAW Cells
DM Office and other institutions

SUPREME COURT EXPOSURE

Students will also have the opportunity to visit:

Supreme Court Mediation Centre
Supreme Court Library
Supreme Court Legal Services Committee

WORKING SCHEDULE

Working Hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Working Days: Monday – Saturday

The internship is a full-time, physical internship.

Interns are expected to carry their own laptops and undertake local travel for court and institutional visits as required.

ATTENDANCE & CERTIFICATION

90% ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY

An Internship Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the internship, subject to fulfilling the attendance requirement.

Please Note: NALSA does not provide a Letter of Recommendation.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES

No stipend or remuneration will be provided.
No TA/DA will be provided.
Interns must arrange their own accommodation.
Formal Black & White dress code is prescribed.
Professional discipline and etiquette must be maintained.
Interns are not expected to pursue another course/work during the internship.
Students are advised not to apply during their college examination period.

The NALSA Internship Programme offers law students an opportunity to understand the practical functioning of legal aid, access to justice, Lok Adalats, mediation and Legal Services Institutions through academic orientation and field exposure.
